Al Franken, Los Angeles track and field promoter, is offering $500,000--over a 20-year period--to any long jumper who breaks Bob Beamon’s world record of 29 feet 2 1/2 inches at the Jack in the Box Invitational at UCLA’s Drake Stadium Aug. 6. If the record is broken before the meet, the money will not be awarded.
