Simi Valley’s Pate Makes Cut at U.S. Open

Steve Pate of Simi Valley shot a one-under-par 69 Friday in the second round of the 89th U. S. Open to qualify for the final two rounds of play today and Sunday at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.
Pate had a two-day total of 143 over the 6,902-yard, par-70 East course and made the cut by two strokes. He trails leader Curtis Strange by eight strokes.
Two other Valley-area golfers were not as fortunate.
Duffy Waldorf of Tarzana shot a 78-73--151 and Jon Fiedler of Camarillo carded a 77-83--160.
