Westminster : Vietnamese Students Plan Vigil for Refugees

Vietnamese students from UC Irvine will hold a candlelight vigil tonight and Tuesday night in front of the Asian Gardens shopping mall in Little Saigon to show solidarity with thousands of Vietnamese refugees in overcrowded refugee camps in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

The demonstration, organized by Project Ngoc (Pearl), a student-based refugee assistance organization, coincides with a meeting in Geneva being sponsored by the United Nations on the worldwide refugee problem. The vigils are part of an international effort in Vietnamese communities worldwide to show their support and concern for Vietnamese refugees, who because of extreme overcrowding in refugee camps, may be forced to return to Vietnam.

The vigils will start at 8:30 p.m. each night and continue until midnight.

Asian Gardens Mall is at 9200 Bolsa Ave.
