Actor, Ventura Negotiate on Sequel
Ventura city officials have been negotiating with actor Jack Nicholson on a request to film part of the sequel to the movie “Chinatown†in Ventura’s historic City Hall.
Nicholson, director of the film, visited City Hall twice last month for a firsthand look at the City Council chambers, which could be used in “The Two Jakes†for a courtroom scene.
City Manager John Baker said the city is supportive of the idea.
But he said he has insisted that the movie’s producers pay overtime for Ventura police and fire personnel who will be needed for security.
“Their first reaction to the overtime pay was negative,†Baker said. “We will have to see what they decide. From my perspective, this a very historic building. For want of a Jack Nicholson movie, I’m not going to take any chances.â€
Baker said the City Hall location would be used for about a week in mid-June if the two sides reach an agreement.
