Two Southern Californians were identified as among the 14 U.S. service personnel missing and presumed dead in Tuesday’s helicopter crash off Japan as U.S. military officials called off a search for survivors. Among the 14 men listed as missing were Navy Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Tim Renaldo, 25, of Huntington Beach, and Marine Cpl. Carter W. Collings, 21, of Covina, the Associated Press reported. A U.S. spokesman, Marine Master Sgt. Jake Rodrigues, said U.S. efforts had been called off. However, the Japanese coast guard continued its search. Eight other Marines were rescued after the CH-46 Sea Knight, based in Hawaii, crashed soon after take-off in an amphibious training exercise.
