Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Rob Dibble was suspended effective today after dropping his appeal of the two-day term imposed by the National League for his bat-throwing tantrum last week.

Dibble was suspended for three days by NL President Bill White, with one day to run concurrent with a two-day suspension imposed by the team. Dibble, angry after surrendering a run-scoring hit last Tuesday, threw a bat at the screen behind home plate.

But he was permitted to play pending his appeal of the White suspension, and he was the winning pitcher Friday in a game against the Chicago Cubs. Dibble now will sit out today’s game against Pittsburgh.
