The State Bar of California said that 50.2% of 4,555 people who took the Bar examination in February passed--the highest percentage passing the winter test in 15 years. That was up from the 45.6% who passed the exam in February a year earlier and was the highest for a winter Bar exam since 1974, when 51.1% made the grade. When the 2,283 who passed the latest three-day test are sworn in next week, the Bar said, the number of lawyers in California will be increased to 117,800. The pass rate last July was 52.3%, the highest in nine years for the summer exam.
