La Mesa
A baby-sitter suspected of shaking an infant girl so hard she caused severe head injuries pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony child abuse.
Michaelle Goodrow, 22, who once lived in La Mesa but now resides in Newport Beach, entered her plea just as her case was to be assigned to a courtroom for trial.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Andrew Wagner set sentencing for July 10.
The district attorney’s office agreed not to oppose a sentence of one year or less in local custody and not to object to a work-furlough sentence. But Wagner can sentence Goodrow to the maximum six-year term in state prison and fine her up to $10,000.
The victim, Briana Foss, suffered a skull fracture in August, when she was 10 weeks old.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Harry Elias said the girl is out of the hospital and living with her parents. She was admitted to Children’s Hospital on Aug. 4 with the head injuries.
According to a court document, the D.A.’s office will not oppose a reduction to a misdemeanor after 30 months.
Goodrow remains free on $10,000 bail bail posted last August.
