Motorcycle Officer Injured in Collision
A Santa Ana motorcycle officer was in stable condition late Tuesday after colliding with a turning car, authorities said.
Sgt. David Smith, 47, was southbound at 1400 S. Ritchey St. when a northbound 1983 Toyota sedan driven by Charles Chiodo, 20, of Santa Ana turned left in front of him, a department spokesman said. The motorcycle was severely damaged, and Smith sustained a serious cut to his right thigh, which required surgery.
The accident is still under investigation, the spokesman said.
