P.M. BRIEFING : Help-Wanted Ads Expand in April
NEW YORK — Demand for labor, as measured by the volume of help-wanted advertising, increased slightly during April, according to an analysis released today.
The Conference Board, a business research organization, said its monthly Help-Wanted Advertising Index rose to 157 in April from 151 in March.
The index tracks the volume of classified advertising in 51 major American newspapers and is considered sensitive to changes in demand for labor and general business conditions.
Advertising volume rose in all sections of the country except the West South Central and Mountain regions. Substantial gains in volume were noted in the South Atlantic and West North Central regions, the Conference Board said.
