Searchers hoped the Great Miami River would recede enough to allow them to use boats today to search for the occupants of two vehicles that plunged into the torrent when a temporary bridge collapsed. Spotters in helicopters and teams patrolling the banks on foot found no signs of the victims in the second day of their search, authorities said. They confirmed that no more than two cars fell into the river when a 100-foot section of the 300-foot span gave way. The Red Cross said only five people remained unaccounted for, and there was no way of determining whether any of them might have been involved in the collapse, which occurred near Cincinnati. The bridge collapsed about 10 minutes after it had been ordered closed because high water debris had threatened the structure but before crews could arrive to erect barricades.
