NCAA Golf : Tulsa, Hurst of San Jose State Lead Tournament After 54 Holes
Tulsa retained its lead in the team competition and Pat Hurst of San Jose State topped the individuals after the third round Friday of the NCAA Division I women’s golf championships at Stanford.
Defending champion Tulsa was at 894 after 54 holes on the Stanford University course. Tulsa shot 299 and held a three-stroke advantage over San Jose State.
The Spartans, at 897, had the lowest team score for the second straight day--293.
Completing the top five schools in the 17-team field were Arizona at 912, Florida 914 and Oklahoma State 917.
Hurst, who has led since the first round, had an even-par 73 for a one-under 215. She had four birdies to offset a triple-bogey seven on the 13th hole and a bogey on the 10th.
Cathy Mockett of Tulsa, who trailed Hurst by a stroke going into the third round, shot a 74 and was two strokes behind at 217. Pearl Sinn of Arizona State, Margaret Platt of Auburn and Susan Slaughter of Arizona were tied for third at 222.
Slaughter was the day’s low scorer, a three-under par 70. Sinn shot 74 and Platt 75.
