IN BRIEF : Dibble Appeals Extra Suspension
- Share via
NEW YORK — Cincinnati Reds reliever Rob Dibble, who just completed a two-day suspension imposed by the team for a bat-tossing tantrum, has appealed the additional two-day term given him by National League President Bill White.
The appeal allowed Dibble, who sat out Wednesday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, to play this afternoon against the Chicago Cubs. The second day of Dibble’s suspension was Thursday, when Cincinnati had a day off. The pitcher will remain eligible to play until a hearing is held, and it has not yet been scheduled.
Dibble, 25, flung the bat into the screen behind home plate after giving up a run-scoring single to Terry Pendleton of St. Louis on Tuesday night.
