Former University of Florida basketball star Vernon Maxwell says an assistant coach who picked up a $300 money order for him in 1987 wasn’t aware the cash was from an agent.
An indictment accusing four sports agents of making illegal payments to Gator athletes alleges that assistant coach Kenny McCraney was wired money intended for Maxwell, who now plays for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.
While McCraney is not charged with a crime, it could be a violation of National Collegiate Athletic Assn. rules if he knew the payment was sent by an agent.
