Somewhere in S.D. Is New Millionaire

Someone in San Diego is holding a lottery ticket worth $5.3 million.

But whoever has that lucky ticket is apparently unaware of its value--or else he or she is being extraordinarily coy for a multimillionaire.

The holder of the winning ticket correctly picked the six numbers chosen by the state lottery’s computer Wednesday in the Lotto 6/49 game--and, what’s more, because no one else selected the same numbers, whoever is holding that ticket gets the whole jackpot and doesn’t have to share it with anyone (except the IRS).

Eleven other Lotto players will receive $131,492 each for picking five of the six numbers, plus the bonus number, 4, a lottery spokeswoman said. One of those tickets also was purchased in San Diego, two in Los Angeles, and the others in Santa Maria, Long Beach, Northridge, Montclair, Elk Grove, Merced, El Sobrante and Auburn.

Although the drawing was held Wednesday, by 5 p.m. Thursday no one had come forward to claim the grand prize, according to lottery officials in Sacramento. The winning ticket was purchased at a store in Linda Vista, but the name of the business won’t be made public until the winner is identified.

So, if you happen to have a piece of paper burning a hole in your pocket with the numbers 13, 23, 27, 2, 3 and 39 on it, please step forward. The IRS is waiting.
