Teachers Leave Classrooms for Picket Lines
- Share via
I find it ironic that the board has upped the salary of those substitute teachers who will cross the picket line by $30 per day, yet there’s no money to give teachers a 21% pay raise over a two-year period.
Although an education is the basic foundation of achievement in this country, teachers have historically been the lowest paid professionals. There is something wrong when those responsible for shaping the minds’ of America’s future get paid less than chauffeurs and garbage collectors.
The children will suffer as a result of this strike but they suffer more from good teachers constantly leaving the profession because they cannot afford to stay.
