Local : Malibu Cityhood Vote OKd by Panel
- Share via
The county Local Agency Formation Commission voted unanimously today to allow Malibu residents to decide if they want to form their own city and sent the proposal to the Board of Supervisors.
Under election laws, the supervisors must vote in favor of the measure by Aug. 11 for it to be placed on the November ballot. Today’s 7-0 vote was greeted with sustained applause by residents who have been frustrated by a series of legal obstacles in their effort to place the cityhood measure on the ballot. The cityhood bid was launched after the county attempted to assess residents for an $86-million sewer system that they claim is unnecessary.
