Southern Section Baseball Playoffs : Moorpark Wins First Playoff Game

Senior right-hander Keith Orford threw a two-hitter, struck out nine and added a two-run double to lead Moorpark High to a 3-1 victory over L. A. Baptist in a 1-A Division wild-card game Tuesday at Moorpark.
The game marked Moorpark’s first appearance in a baseball playoff game in the 42-year history of the program. The Musketeers, who finished third in the Tri-Valley League, will visit Tehachapi, champion of the Desert-Inyo League, for a first-round game Friday.
Orford walked two in the complete-game victory. His two-run double in the second inning, the Musketeers’ only extra-base hit, gave Moorpark (15-6) a 2-0 lead.
Dave Ophus (6-2) gave up five hits and three runs in five innings and suffered the loss. Shane Wight knocked in Dan Shackelford, who walked and stole second, with a double in the fourth inning for the Knights (16-6).
Moorpark added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth.
4-A DIVISION
South Hills 5, Burroughs 0--Tom Phillips and Kevin Guild each doubled for Burroughs, which collected only four hits in the wild-card game at South Hills.
Senior right-hander Chris Westbury (8-4) gave up three runs and three hits in five innings to suffer the loss.
All five South Hills runs were unearned as Burroughs (15-12) made three errors.
SMALL SCHOOLS DIVISION
Oakwood 5, L.A. Lutheran 4--Darin Margules gave up nine hits in picking up the complete-game victory in the wild-card game at L. A. Lutheran.
Trevor Earle and Travis Canel each hit run-scoring doubles for L. A. Lutheran, the only extra-base hits in the game. Junior right-hander Chad Phillips gave up five runs and five hits in 2 1/3 innings and took the loss.
Kevin Brown was three for four and scored two runs to lead the Lions (9-8).
Oakwood improved to 10-8.
Camarillo Christian 9, Thacher 0--Senior right-hander John Boardman threw a one-hitter and struck out five and Ty Condon tripled and doubled and knocked in one run to lead the Eagles in the wild-card game at Thacher.
Mike Hardy had three hits, including a triple, and three RBIs, and Peter Runsten had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Eagles (16-5).
Jon Giorgi and Marc Marshall also tripled for Camarillo Christian.
