WORLD : Ceramic Dish Sold for $2.82 Million

HONG KONG — A 12th-Century Chinese ceramic dish used to wash calligraphy brushes was sold at auction today for $2.82 million to a private Los Angeles collector, officials said.

A private collector, Sunrider International, bought the rare mellow flower-shaped brush washer from the imperial court of the Song Dynasty (1127-1279), Sotheby’s said.

Also, a Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) decorated basin sold for $2.61 million, auction officials said. A Qing bowl with a mark for imperial palace of emperor Kangxi fetched $1.34 million, Sotheby’s said.
