Nine Royal Navy crew members were killed in a helicopter crash in Kenya, the British navy’s worst peacetime air disaster, the British Defense Ministry said. The Westland Lynx, from the naval frigate Brilliant, crashed 280 miles southeast of Nairobi on Kenya’s eastern coast, a defense spokesman said. The ship was headed to Mombasa for routine maintenance and a two-week leave for the crew after patrol in the Persian Gulf. Among the nine killed was Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Fessey, 36, a friend of Prince Andrew, the son of Queen Elizabeth II. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
