LOCAL : N. Hollywood Suspect Surrenders

A North Hollywood man, sought in the stabbing death of his roommate, turned himself in at the Mexican border today, Los Angeles police said.

Lt. Ron La Rue said police were called to an apartment in the 10800 block of Kling Street at 11:15 p.m. Monday and found a 25-year-old woman dead of multiple stab wounds. The woman’s name was not released pending notification of her family. Police were called by one of three men who also lived at the apartment.

La Rue said detectives were just beginning the investigation when they were contacted by U.S. Customs agents and told that Hugo R. Wiegand, one of the victim’s roommates, had surrendered at 1 a.m. today at the border crossing at San Ysidro.

“He was going to go into Mexico but decided instead to turn himself in,†La Rue said.

Los Angeles detectives drove to San Ysidro and returned with Wiegand, who was arrested on suspicion of murder. La Rue said detectives had not learned the motive for the slaying.
