Eulogy for Z
I am sure that many movie lovers in Los Angeles are angry and more than a little sad that after 15 years the Z Channel will be no more, replaced by an all-sports channel on June 1.
Under its late program director, Jerry Harvey, the Z Channel became the best and most innovative cable service in the country. With its Hollywood movies, foreign films and uncut showings of such films as “Heaven’s Gate,” “Once Upon a Time in America” and “Touch of Evil,” the Z Channel became the envy of most of the other cable systems.
We hope that some day Harvey’s dream will be realized: a cable channel that can appeal to all tastes while still not insulting the intelligence of the viewer.
