The Navy believes it can repair the damaged gun turret on the battleship Iowa for around $15 million to $20 million, with the lower figure more likely, defense sources said. The sources, speaking one day after Pentagon officials announced it was technically feasible to repair the turret after last month’s fatal explosion, stressed the dollar estimate was preliminary and that no decision had been made to authorize the work.
