Fairchild to Hold Talks: Fairchild Industries Inc. said it will negotiate with the Carlyle Group, which has offered to buy the aerospace communications company in a deal worth about $400 million. Fairchild’s board appointed a special committee of outside directors asked the company’s legal and financial advisers to start discussions with Carlyle, a Washington-based investment partnership that is offering $17 a share. In addition, the committee authorized advisers to hold discussions with “any other interested parties and continue to explore other approaches designed to maximize stockholder values,†the company said in a statement.
