Compton : Most Candidates Miss Spending Report Deadline

Only five of the 23 candidates in Tuesday’s municipal elections in Compton filed campaign contribution and spending reports in time to meet the state-mandated deadline April 6.

By Wednesday, three other candidates had filed late reports but Mayor Walter R. Tucker and incumbent Councilmen Floyd James and Robert Adams were not among them, according to workers in the city clerk’s office, where the reports must be filed.

Late notices were being mailed Wednesday from the clerk’s office to candidates who have not filed their reports. Under state law, late filers can be fined between $10 and $100 a day for every day they are late.

Those who met the reporting deadline were City Treasurer Wesley Sanders Jr., mayoral candidate Omar Bradley, and three City Council candidates, Leon C. Polk, Alfonso Benson Sr. and Juanas S. Moten. Those filing late were City Clerk Charles Davis, his opponent, Saul Lankster, and Earnest Spears, who is running for treasurer.
