Local News in Brief : Ex-UCLA Athlete’s Sentencing Delayed

The sentencing of Darrell Allums--the former UCLA basketball player convicted last month of robbing eight Domino’s Pizza deliverymen--was postponed Monday until May 15 at the request of Allums’ lawyer.
The 30-year-old athlete who spent nearly two years in County Jail awaiting trial could be sentenced to up to 13 years more in state prison when he returns to Torrance Superior Court.
Allums is expected to ask that any incarceration be in a drug rehabilitation center rather than in state prison, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Frances J. Sulman. Defense attorney J. Patrick Maginnis declined to comment.
Allums apparently robbed the Domino’s deliverymen to raise money for cocaine, a county probation reports says.
