POP LP CHART : Gibson Gets Boost From ‘Youth’ Single
Five out of Debbie Gibson’s nine weeks on the Billboard magazine pop album chart, with “Electric Youth,†have been in the No. 1 position. Her new single, the album’s title song, leaped to No. 45 in only two weeks so the album could be in the Top Five for quite a while longer. Rapper Tone Loc’s third-ranked album, “Loc-ed After Dark,†is getting a boost from his second hit single, “Funky Cold Medinaâ€--No. 10, with a good shot at No. 1. Mike and the Mechanics, who recently had a No. 1 single with “The Living Years,†may have a Top 10 album in the next few weeks with “Living Years,†which is up to No. 13.( ) Roxette’s “The Look†is the new No. 1 pop single.
* All the negative publicity Madonna had recently about that controversial video certainly hasn’t turned off her fans. Her “Like a Prayer†album made a spectacular debut on the pop album chart at No. 11. The single of the title song is No. 5 after just four weeks on the chart.
