Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Warner Avenue Bridge to Be Closed, Rebuilt
- Share via
In a bid to save time and money, Caltrans is planning to close and rebuild the Warner Avenue bridge spanning the Costa Mesa Freeway in Santa Ana, a project that will take 8 months beginning in May and disrupt traffic for many businesses and residents of the area.
The bridge reconstruction is part of the freeway widening project between Dyer Road and the Santa Ana Freeway-Costa Mesa Freeway interchange, which is also being rebuilt in stages.
Caltrans officials said this week that they hope to recover any lost time on the bridge project and open the new freeway lanes below the bridge several months ahead of Caltrans’ former schedule. Two new traffic lanes and two auxiliary lanes used for merging traffic are under construction.
The bridge project was delayed a year due to negotiations with an affected property owner nearby and additional design work.
