NATION : Eagleburger OKd for State Dept. Job

WASHINGTON — The Senate today approved the nomination of Lawrence Eagleburger, a close associate of former Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger, to the No. 2 position in the State Department.
Eagleburger, 58, was approved as deputy secretary of state on a voice vote with no debate. He was a career diplomat for 27 years, serving as ambassador to Yugoslavia and later as a key aide to Kissinger, secretary of state during the Nixon and Ford administrations. After leaving the Foreign Service in 1984, Eagleburger served as president of Kissinger’s consulting firm.
