Deal for Sports Gear Maker: Freeman Spogli & Co., a Los Angeles private merchant banking firm, and an international investment group primarily from Austria have agreed to acquire the Sports Products Group of Minneapolis-based Minstar Inc. for $160 million in cash plus the assumption of about $100 million in certain liabilities. The sports division is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of recreational sporting goods. These include such familiar brand names as Head, maker of skis and tennis rackets; Tyrolia, which makes ski bindings, and Mares, which makes scuba diving equipment.
