A Chula Vista couple whose 5-year-old daughter shot a playmate with the father’s gun Thanksgiving Day were sentenced Thursday to six years’ probation each for failing to adequately take care of their children.
Thomas Armenta Molina, 58, and Irma Reyes Molina, 28, pleaded guilty Jan. 9 to felony child endangerment. With the plea bargain, both could be sentenced to a year in jail.
Mary Ann Burns, 2, was shot in the head by the Molinas’ daughter with a .38-caliber handgun. She has made a surprising improvement.
After the shooting, the Molinas’ five children were placed in the custody of relatives by authorities.
