Hart Girls Open State Tournament at Home Tonight
The state high school basketball tournament begins tonight with the opening round in 10 boys’ and girls’ divisions.
In the girls’ Division I field of the Southern California region, third-seeded Hart (25-2), the Southern Section 5-A Division champion, plays host to 5-AA runner-up Fontana (27-2) at 7:30.
Crenshaw, the City Section 4-A champion, is top-seeded in the boys’ Division I field. The Cougars (21-2) will play San Diego Section champion Poway at Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7:30.
Defending state champion Manual Arts (24-1), which lost to Crenshaw, 85-72, in the City championship game last Friday, received an at-large bid and will play Capistrano Valley (24-4) at Saddleback College.
Fremont (25-3), the City 3-A champion, will travel to Long Beach to play Millikan (25-6), the Southern Section 5-AA Division champion.
The regional semifinals will be held Thursday with the finals Saturday at the Sports Arena and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
