UNLV 81, Pacific 71--Nevada Las Vegas Coach Jerry Tarkanian, giving his regulars a rest, started five backups and led by as many as 21 points in the first half at Stockton.

But the Tigers put together a 40-20 run to take a 67-65 lead with 5:13 remaining.

Tarkanian then inserted starters David Butler and Stacey Augmon into the lineup, and the 18th-ranked Rebels went on a 10-0 run.

Anderson Hunt scored 21 points and Moses Scurry had 13 rebounds for the Rebels, 22-7 overall and 15-2 in the Big West.

Don Lyttle had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Pacific (6-20, 2-15).

Fresno State 73, San Jose State 59--Kevin Stevenson scored 20 points to help the Bulldogs pull away from the Spartans in a Big West game at Fresno.

Derreck Barden added 17 for Fresno State (13-13, 8-9).

Craig McPherson scored 15 for the Spartans (5-21, 1-16), who led, 37-36, at halftime.
