World : Bush Tells Doubts on Contra Pact

WASHINGTON — President Bush voiced doubts in talks today with Guatemala’s president about the recent Central American peace agreement that would disband the Contra forces as he mulls over keeping them alive with U.S. aid, Bush’s spokesman said.
Bush told President Vinicio Cerezo that the United States is concerned about the commitment of the ruling Sandinistas to live up to their promises of democratic reform in Nicaragua in exchange for demobilizing the 11,000-strong Contra army, White House spokesman Marlin Fitzwater said.
