Ben Johnson’s doctor, Jamie Astaphan, has promised to testify in Toronto at the Canadian federal inquiry into drugs and amateur sport fueled by the sprinter’s steroid scandal.
Astaphan isn’t expected to testify for several days. Charlie Francis, Johnson’s coach, is the scheduled first witness today.
Astaphan, who lives on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, has provided written assurances to give his version of events that led to Johnson’s being stripped of a gold medal in the 100 meters at the Seoul Olympics. Johnson tested positive for the steroid stanozolol.
