YUCCA FLAT, Nev. — A nuclear device was detonated 1,200 feet beneath the desert today in the second nuclear test announced this year at the Nevada Test Site, the federal Energy Department said. The 8:15 a.m. test, which was weapons-related and code-named Kawich, “was very successful from all standpoints,†department spokesman Jim Boyer said. No ground motion was felt at a control point 15 miles from ground zero.
