San Diego
Volunteer groups that favor renaming San Diego’s bayfront convention center for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King submitted 3,000 letters Tuesday supporting the name change to the San Diego Unified Port District.
The groups said presentation of the letters brings the total given the port commissioners to more than 4,000.
The name change requires approval of the commissioners--who are scheduled to vote on the issue Tuesday--and the San Diego City Council. The council voted in favor of the change Jan. 10 but must consider it again if the port commissioners ratify the change to San Diego Martin Luther King Convention Center.
