The Miami officer whose shooting of a black motorcyclist touched off three days of racial violence last month formally pleaded innocent while his attorney said evidence showed it was a case of self defense. William Lozano, 29, is free on bond on two manslaughter counts in the Jan. 16 shooting death of the motorcycle driver, Clement Lloyd, 23, and in the death of his passenger, Allan Blanchard, 24, who suffered severe head trauma in a crash following the shooting. Lozano’s attorney, Roy Black, unsuccessfully sought a delay in the trial because of the racially charged atmosphere in Miami, and indicated he may seek to have the trial moved to another city. The trial was set for June 19.
