Roundup : La Quinta Hits From Long Range for 80-37 Victory
Scott Linck and Scott Campbell scored 14 points each as La Quinta High School defeated Bolsa Grande, 80-37, in a Garden Grove League boys’ basketball game Monday at Bolsa Grande.
The victory keeps La Quinta (14-5 overall, 9-1 in league play) a game ahead of Kennedy and Pacifica in the race for the league championship. La Quinta was 13 of 22 on 3-point attempts. Linck was 3 of 3. Campbell, who played only 12 minutes, was 3 of 4, and Bill Snyder was 3 of 6.
Snyder had 11 points and James Johnson 10. Bolsa Grande is 2-15, 1-9.
In other Garden Grove League boys’ basketball games:
Rancho Alamitos 76, Los Amigos 67--Chris Singletary scored 19 points and Gary Lira and Richard Pearce had 16 each for host Rancho Alamitos (8-9, 6-4). Los Amigos opened a 22-15 lead after the first quarter, but Rancho Alamitos outscored Los Amigos, 25-15, in the second quarter and led, 40-37, at the half.
Carlos Palamino scored 32 for Los Amigos (5-12, 4-6).
Pacifica 72, Garden Grove 40--Dustin Bonham scored 24 points to lead host Pacifica (13-5, 8-2). Randy Schulze added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Bill Mauer had 10 assists and 6 points, and Mike Maher had 10 rebounds and 6 points for Pacifica. Garden Grove is 4-15, 3-7.
Kennedy 59, Santiago 39--Greg Hansell scored 15 points, had 12 rebounds and 6 blocked shots to lead host Kennedy (15-7, 8-2). Jeff Williams scored 10 for Kennedy, which led, 17-6, after a quarter and 34-14 at the half. Dana Ripley scored 11 for Santiago (1-14, 1-9).
In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:
La Quinta 66, Bolsa Grande 21--Junior forward Amy Jalewalia scored 44 points, 22 in each half, for visiting La Quinta (17-3, 10-0). She also had 24 rebounds and 7 steals.
In Garden Grove League boys’ soccer:
Pacifica 4, Garden Grove 1--Dan Barber, Kevin Ashworth, John Aggen and Mike White scored in the second half as visiting Pacifica erased a 1-0 halftime deficit. Jeff Christiansen scored for Garden Grove. Pacifica, the top-ranked team in the Southern Section 2-A, is 15-0-1, 8-0-1.
La Quinta 4, Bolsa Grande 1--Jon Korzen scored 2 goals to lead visiting La Quinta (9-7-2, 5-3-1).
In Sea View League boys’ soccer:
Corona del Mar 2, Tustin 2--Enriqure Galli and Pat Callaghan scored in the first half as visiting Corona del Mar (2-2-2 in league play) took a 2-1 lead. Scott Casey scored in the first half and Andy Bermudez tied it in the second half for Tustin (5-4-7, 1-2-3).
