Alan Parker, who brought the controversial civil rights film “Mississippi Burning†to the screen, was one of five directors nominated today for the Directors Guild of America’s award for outstanding achievement.

Also named for work on 1988 movies were Charles Crichton, director of “A Fish Called Wandaâ€; Barry Levinson, “Rain Manâ€; Robert Zemeckis, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,†and Mike Nichols, “Working Girl.†Only three times in Hollywood history has the guild award winner failed to go on to win the Academy Award for best director.
