Local News in Brief : Con Artists Posing as Couple Sentenced
Two con artists who posed as a young married couple down on their luck to swindle people around Los Angeles out of money were sentenced Monday to County Jail.
Municipal Court Commissioner Barry Kohn sentenced Jeffrey Dwayne Allman, 31, to 15 months in jail and sentenced Tracy Chris Hartland, 24, to nine months behind bars. The couple were also ordered to make restitution to the more than 300 victims who were conned into handing over sums ranging from $10 to $100.
In addition, they were placed on five years’ probation and ordered to complete six-month drug education and rehabilitation programs.
Kohn imposed the sentences after Allman and Hartland each pleaded no contest to 10 misdemeanor counts of petty theft.
