PELVIC THRUSTS: Who’s that cocky cover boy on the February issue of L.A. Style? None other than Elvis Presley, whose Hollywood years are expertly documented (by Steve Pond) and illustrated with rare--and some never-before published pix of The King (from the Michael Ochs Archives). Taken by an unknown photographer, they show the Big E in movieland, lunching outside the honey wagon and horsing around on the set of “Love Me Tender.â€

Our favorite anecdote spotlights Elvis’ gawky deference to his elders. In one scene, he was asked to angrily wave a pistol while his screen mother, Mildred Dunnock, snapped: “Put down that gun!†Instead of growling back, as scripted, Elvis sheepishly purred, “Yes, ma’am†and dropped his weapon. To celebrate its new issue, L.A. Style threw a “Heartbreak Hotel†party at (where else?) Heartbreak Cafe on Earthquake Night. The festivities included a show by Elvis impersonator El Vez, who wowed the likes of Nicolas Gage, Scott Baio, Ray Manzarek, Michael Des Barres and Fred Dryer--who when the earthquake hit, quipped to a party organizer: “Great special effects!â€
