Daniel Has 2-Shot Lead in Florida
BOCA RATON, Fla. — Beth Daniel shot 4-under-par 68 Friday to open a 2-stroke advantage over Chris Johnson midway through the Ladies Professional Golf Assn. Oldsmobile tournament.
The second-round leader had 6 birdies and 2 bogeys on the par-72, 6,333-yard Stonebridge Golf and Country Club course and finished with a 36-hole total of 7-under 137.
Johnson, coming off a disappointing season in which she won only $46,219, shot a 69, with 4 birdies and a bogey, that left her at 139. Five others trailed Daniel by 3 strokes, including defending champion Nancy Lopez and first-round leader Dot Germain.
Daniel, once a dominant player, hasn’t won an official LPGA Tour event since 1985, when she notched her 14th career victory in the Inamori tournament.
Germain, who shot 72, fell from contention with 4 bogeys in the first 6 holes.
Joining Germain at 140 were Lopez, Susie Redman, Martha Nause and Jody Rosenthal.
