St. Francis 53, St. John Bosco 50--Junior Forward Dominick Mumolo made a free throw with 5 seconds remaining and St. Francis added a meaningless basket at the buzzer in a Del Rey League game at St. John Bosco.
The Golden Knights trailed by as many as 9 points with 4 minutes remaining in the final period but tied the score, 50-50, on a Jeff Dyrek jump shot with 50 seconds remaining.
Agoura 63, Nordhoff 61--The Chargers, who led by as many as 23 in the second half, held on as Nordhoff fought back from a 53-33 deficit after 3 quarters in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff. Agoura forward Jeff Ingalls scored 20 points and Gabe Bennett added 11.
Palmdale 77, Canyon 64--Trailing, 36-20, at halftime, Canyon narrowed the deficit to 10 points in the third quarter of the Golden League game but could draw no closer.
Jamil Austin had 27 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for Canyon (10-6, 1-3), but his performance was offset by Palmdale’s Shannon Culver, who scored 24 points. Austin and Culver both made 8 of 17 field-goal attempts. Palmdale is 3-1 in league play.
Darren Oldenberg added 13 points for Canyon and Clint Beauer had 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Quartz Hill 79, Saugus 77--Saugus led by 8 points with 5 minutes remaining, but Quartz Hill went on a 12-0 run to pull out a Golden League win at Saugus.
Senior forward Sean Legaux played his first game in 3 weeks and had 11 points for Saugus (1-13, 0-4). Teammate Aaron Volpe had a team-high 21 points.
Montclair Prep 74, Western Christian 61--Junior forward Jason Gerber scored 22 points on 11-of-19 shooting and added 14 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals to lead the Mounties in an Alpha League game.
L.A. Baptist 70, Maranatha 30--L. A. Baptist outscored Maranatha, 23-2, in the first quarter and was never threatened in an Alpha League game. Senior guard Dave Garcia scored 20 points and had 10 assists for L. A. Baptist (14-4, 3-1). Forward Brett Craig added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Knights.
Paraclete 88, Oakwood 75--Despite Mitchell Butler’s game-high 35 points, the Gorillas (10-4) fell behind early in a nonleague game at Paraclete.
Paraclete guard Jeff Zelenski made 4 of 5 3-point attempts and 10 of 10 free throws and finished with 32 points.
Paraclete (14-1), ranked No. 7 in the Southern Section 2-A Division, made 28 of 37 free throws.
Grace Community 83, Highland Hall 59--Scott Lechuga scored 7 of his game-high 27 points in the first quarter as Grace Community (9-3, 4-0) built a 30-7 lead and cruised to a Westside League win.
GIRLS
Hart 61, Burroughs 41--Nikki Brodowy and Sara Wilson combined for 32 points as the Indians (15-2, 4-0) preserved their unbeaten Foothill League record and defeated Burroughs for the first time in Coach Pam Walker’s 4-year tenure at Hart.
Maranatha 42, L.A. Baptist 35--Debbie Maccioli scored 15 and Debbie Miller added 12 as the Minutemen overcame a 4-point first quarter deficit to win an Alpha League game at Maranatha.
