Trustees of the William S. Hart Union High School District voted Tuesday to spend $1.5 million to buy a new site for the district’s continuation high school.

District officials hope to open the new Jereann Bowman Continuation High School in September, 1990, said Hart Supt. Clyde Smyth. The new school, which will house 300 students, will be on 3.6 acres along Redview Drive in Saugus.

Construction will cost $1.7 million, Smyth said.

The old Bowman school, housed in temporary classrooms, is next to Canyon High School in Canyon Country. Moving the 20-year-old school will allow the district to add more classrooms to Canyon High to accommodate a growing student population, Smyth said.

Canyon, which has 2,000 students, will be able to accommodate 2,600 students after the expansion, Smyth said.
