Sweden’s Svan Wins Nordic Skiing Event

NOVE MESTO, Czechoslovakia — Gunde Svan of Sweden won a Nordic ski cross-country event Sunday and widened his lead in World Cup standings after six races this season.
The double Olympic winner in Calgary covered the distance, contested in classical style, in 1 hour 17 minutes 57.7 seconds. Svan also took the first place in the 15-kilometer free style event Friday.
Paal-Gunar Mikkelsplass of Norway came in second in 1:19:39.7 and his teammate, Vergard Ulvang, tied for third place with East Germany’s Holger Bauroth in 1:20:07.4.
Terje Langli of Norway finished fifth in 1:20:25 and Czechoslovakia’s Martin Petrasek took the sixth place in 1:20:35.4.
