The American Electronics Assn. said 16 U.S. firms have agreed to start work on a business plan to set up a partnership to fund development of high-definition televisions. The partnership will develop, fund and manage one or more HDTV groups, which will conduct research leading to product manufacturing. The group also will license resulting technology to other U.S. companies and direct technology to HDTV and related product manufacturing. The partnership comprises Hewlett-Packard, Varian Associates, Cohu Inc., Digital Equipment, ITT, Prometrix, Zenith Electronics, IBM, Apple Computer, Tektronix, Raychem, Motorola, Micro Electronics Computer Technology, Texas Instruments, Harris Corp. and AVX Corp.
