Daniel Mahrer of Switzerland won a World Cup downhill on the Hahnenkamm course in Kitzbuhel, Austria, by edging Marc Girardelli of Luxembourg.
Mahrer was timed in 1 minute, 58.42 seconds, beating Girardelli by seven-hundredths of a second. Austrian Peter Wirnsberger was third in 1:58.67, and World Cup leader Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland finished fourth in 1:58.95.
Brian Stemmle of Canada suffered a broken pelvis and internal injuries in a crash. Stemmle, who was going faster than 62 m.p.h. at the time of the accident, was in satisfactory condition after surgery.
