The pilot killed in the crash of a light plane in fog on Pleasanton Ridge earlier in the week was identified as Barbara S. Gellman, 43, a Newport Beach attorney and businesswoman. Authorities said Gellman, the mother of three, was en route to Oakland from John Wayne Airport in Orange County for a business meeting when her plane crashed at about the 1,000-foot level of the ridge. The Federal Aviation Administration said she had radioed air traffic controllers for assistance as she was approaching Oakland. Controllers three times radioed warnings that she was flying too low in the poor visibility. Investigators said she acknowledged one warning.
