Local News in Brief : Timothy Leary’s Daughter Faces Trial

The daughter of 1960s LSD guru Timothy Leary has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting her live-in boyfriend in the head in a lovers’ spat.
Susan Martino, 41, also known as Susan Leary, pleaded not guilty to the charge at her arraignment and was being held without bail pending a preliminary hearing Jan. 19, prosecutors said Monday.
Martino was arrested last Thursday on charges that she shot her live-in boyfriend, Joel Ruben Chavira, 38, once in the back of the head as he was taking a nap in the couple’s Glendale apartment Dec. 18, Deputy Dist. Atty. John Bernardi said.
